Introduction
A forceful push, a slap, a punch, occasional fear, dominance, coercion, control, and
intimidation are domestic violence elements that happen in most settings, especially during this
Covid-19 pandemic period. Whenever families spend time together, instances of domestic
violence increase even when the situation seems blissful. Intimate partner violence (IPV) and
women’s exposure to known abusers is alarming now more than ever, prompting a more in-depth
look at the escalating viciousness’s causative factors. Substance abuse has mainly contributed to
the prevalence of these cruelties, and the associated characteristics of offenders are not hard to
spot. Therefore, the paper will evaluate four features of abusers in domestic violence and the role
of substance abuse and its effects on substance abuse.
Characteristics of Abusers and Role of Substance Abuse
The receivers or observers who are keen on the characteristics, especially those that do
not cause physical harm, can quickly spot domestic violence. One of the features of an abusive
person is jealousy or controlling behavior. It is a common trait that is noticed through the
excessive possessiveness of either children or partners. For instance, a husband may resent his
wife’s time with friends and relatives from her side. He may also not want her to spend time
away from the house. If the wife is out, constant calls are made to “check-up” and know when
she is supposed to get home. It is always advisable to set boundaries from the onset of
relationships, but the behavior may develop during the association, consequently limiting the
participants’ freedom. Anabolic steroids, human-made or synthetic variations of the male sex
hormone testosterone are some of the drugs associated with this characteristic. Users are often
become unreasonably jealous and are often paranoid of being left alone. They are usually in
constant fear that they may not receive enough attention if given to other people. The effects on
