Serotonin syndrome occurs when one takes medications that increase serotonin levels in the
body (Charcot, 2013). The symptoms include:
- restlessness
- Faster heart rate and elevated blood pressure
- dilated pupils
- profuse sweating
- loss of muscle coordination
- headache and diarrhea
- confusion
- goosebumps
2. What is Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome, and what are the S/S?
Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome is a reaction to antipsychotic drugs used to treat schizophrenia,
bipolar disorder, and other mental health conditions (Charcot, 2013). The symptoms include;
- high fever
- muscle stiffness
- elevated blood pressure and fast heart and respiratory rate
- profuse sweating
