young African-American lad toying with a dinosaur with a gaze out of the window to view the
infamous T.Rex since ‘there has to be a T.Rex’ as the poet affirms. Because of typecast dinosaur
films it must be a T.Rex, and if this film is a little African American, what are the stereotypes?
The poem leave a burning question. Bluntly, Smith describes the metaphor of "boy with the gun,
black boys toy with their own lives," in Stanza 2 "Don't allow Tarantino to lead it," because of its

movie industry for decades. The key explanation for the stereotypes is the need for directors to
look and act in particular to create a standardized and flawless storyline of different films. Thus,
race and sex are critical aspects for perfectly playing these positions, which in turn display the
continuing use of stereotypes in the film industry today. The author explains during Dinosaurs in
the Hood that movies do not require stereotyping people from one another are important through
line ‘I don’t want any racist shit about Asian people or overused Latino stereotypes’. Smith also
reveals his ability to film people from a real society in real life. Danez Smith explains in his
dinosaurs at the Hood how he wants to have a film that does not include stereotyping individuals,
because he just wants people from real life to portray his film. Smith focuses in the entire poem
on the way men and women sometimes play their predominant role in the movie sector.
Dinosaurs in the Hood aim to counteract the gentrification of the mind by demonstrating
how the mind was gentrified in the past and proposing a film in which it did not occur. This is
