Introduction
Being called to a domestic disturbance is one of the most common and dangerous calls
and officer can be called too. In 2017 more police officers were shot responding to these calls
than any other types of incidents (Schlosser,2018). Since these calls are so common some
officers may let their guard down. Due to these calls be common and the fact that these calls can
turn violent that there are some steps that officers take in order to be safe when they are
responding to these calls starting from when they are dispatched to the final sentencing.
The Section Heading
When being dispatched to the call the officers should ask some questions to the
dispatcher. Such questions should include prior contact with the caller, offender, or maybe the
residence. This can help to see if the any prior experiences has lead to a violent path to help
responding officers be prepared for what is about to happen. They will also need to determine if
the suspected offender is still at the residence. If they are not at the residence than they will need
to try and get a description, what direction of travel they left in, and if they left with any
weapons. In some cases officers who have had previous contact with the residence or individuals
involved can rely information to officers. All this information is great for the officers that arrive
on scene (Schlosser,2018).
Arriving at the Scene
Once the officers arrive on the scene they will need to be very observant of all of the
surroundings and listen to the residence as you approach. This includes looking for the people
involved in the instances and if there are any dogs. Note the size of the dogs to see if they can
become a threat. Once the officers know whats in their surroundings approach the entrance. Once
