AERONAUTICAL SCIENCE CASE ANALYSIS 2
Aeronautical Science Case Analysis
Review What Others Did Regarding the Case
While it is the duty of the Federal Government to define airport security standards, most
airline companies now realize the need to enlist the support of private companies to screen
passengers and avert possible terror attacks. The companies established that the private
companies achieved the standards required of federal screeners. A major unbecoming of the
federal security system was that the screeners sometimes performed non-security functions such
as pay roll duties. With the private companies, the screeners have differentiated duties (Bolder,
2015). Advantage with the federal screening system was that there were fewer reduced layers of
management given the absence of middlemen. The private companies have the risk of
management layers between the federal supervisors and security screeners. However, given the
strict requirements, private screeners can get the job done more efficiently than the federal
screeners can.
Diagnosis of the Case
Following the 9/11 attack in which many Americans lost their lives, the federal
government realized the need to scale up security of passengers. The relevant authorities had to
relook the functions of the federal screeners. Sometimes, they also doubled as pay roll screeners,
which meant that they undermined the screening job. Therefore, there was need to create the
Transportation Security Administration (TSA) (Bolder, 2015). While both the federal screeners
as well as the private screeners have their challenges, perhaps there is need to integrate the two.
