1. What is the story about, and who do you most identify with in this story?
The story is about how companies or organizations correctly or incorrectly handle their internal
staff’s affairs. It is a perfect case study which can be used to demonstrate how awful things may
turn out to be in case a simple issue (s) is not communicated in due time or if the relevant
personnel are not involved or consulted in the decision-making process of the organization.
In this whole case situation, I mostly identify with Chrysalis Pharmaceutical’s head of Learning
and Development (L&D), Mr. Ramesh Sharma.
2. In your analysis, who do you think is /are responsible for the case situation Kamla
or Ramesh or both?
In my own analysis, I think both Ms. Kamla Saxena and Mr. Ramesh Sharma are responsible for
the situation which they are currently facing in their company. Each of them had a role to play to
prevent the issues escalating to such levels. If things were handled differently earlier, then the
situation could have been arrested and managed in a better way earlier.
3. Describe how each person is responsible?
As mentioned in my answer in question 2 above, both Kamla Saxena and Ramesh Sharma were
responsible for the turn of events experienced in their organization.
First and foremost, I strongly believe that Kamla Saxena being the vice president of HR had a
responsibility of involving Ramesh Sharma before going ahead and recruiting an additional staff
in his department. Its very unethical and wrong for such a senior employee of the company to
deliberately fail to communicate their plans to Mr. Ramesh Sharma considering that they’ve had
a series of meetings together in the past. Being the head of the department, he was better placed
to request an extra staff if he deemed necessary. He had a right to at least know what was going
on.
Being the vice president of HR, Kamla Saxena should not have implied that Gargi Sinha is better
than Ramesh Sharma in terms of their leadership capabilities. This was very demotivating and
greatly affected Ramesh’s morale and by extension, his productivity.
Kamla and Raman broke protocol by inviting Gargi to a dinner which she didn’t qualify to
attend.
