Hospital leadership is a critical factor in service delivery and flow-chain of

communication and all other aspects. Many organizations are moving from the hierarchical

system of governance to a more centralized system of governance. Alexander Marine and

General Hospital (AMGH) is operating on a hierarchical system of governance. The hospital

president is the supreme leader, and the board of directors’ reports to him directly. Though it has

shown some success in the hospital, this type of leadership style is, however, outdated. The

centralized system of governance in which duties and power in decentralized is the most current

and acceptable governance method. It has shown a lot of success in many organizations.

According to (Billinger & Workiewicz, 2019), in as much as a hierarchical system of

governance supports a good flow of command from the senior-most officer to the junior

employees, it does not provide for democracy and exchange of ideas. This is to say that the

junior employees are thus reduced to only taking orders and have no chances to contribute to the

building and promoting the organization's agendas. “Fading hierarchies and the emergence of

new forms of organization is to address an important phenomenon—the slow but steady

replacement of traditional top-down hierarchies with more decentralized structures where

employees are given significant autonomy in how to carry out their work or which projects to

undertake.”

Alexander Marine and General Hospital (AMGH) executives enjoy the full monopoly of

decision-making. Inasmuch, this is good for the stability of the organization. However, it limits

the creativity of the junior employees. The latter are locked out of the decision-making ranks by

the hierarchical system of governance. Every employee in an organization should be allowed to

contribute to the organization's affairs, thus promoting creativity and development.
