1. Discuss using examples issues that are affecting the implementation of the
Competency Based Curriculum (CBC).
i. Inadequate training of facilitators
The CBC needs equipped and better built training mechanisms to encourage the
transformation of knowledge of teachers from the old system (8-4-4) to the new adopted
system (CBC). Teachers still have less understanding of the new system which poses
challenges on the delivery of learning in the institutions. CBC needs expansion of
learning facilities which many learning institution haven’t met.
ii. Unfavorable working conditions
The immediate environment required to facilitate the new system isn’t favorable and does
not meet the requirements due less facilitation of infrastructure and equipment. For
example, some schools have less classrooms and huge mass number of learners and
others not facilitated with learning requirements such as computers to enable learners
interested and talented in IT to build their skills.
iii. Less motivation to facilitators/ teachers.
The ministries haven’t done enough in ensuring that there is 100% support transition. Just
like ideas, the new adopted system will face resistance leading to having laggards that
will tend to pull down the efforts made. The educational sector needs to make more
efforts in training and motivating employees to ensuring that they cooperate fully and
enjoy the new changes. Less motivation may lead to perception of learning being
unnecessary and tedious by facilitators may be seen as an example.
iv. Less funding of public schools.
The report from media houses on the state of learning institutions shows a huge variation
of private from public schools. This is as result of fewer capitations in public schools
which may lead to low delivery of CBC system as it requires more funding for expansion
of classes, training and procuring facilities required to make learning effective and
efficient.
v. Inadequate institutional support
Inadequate support from the institutions has posed a huge challenge in the
implementation process even after its enactment by the ministry of education. This has
been as a result of head of institutions and the facilitators being not well versed with the
CBC. Less training teachers of occur at this levels, poor working conditions and
