MENOPAUSE 2
Menopause
All women experience a time when they stop menstruating. This marks the end of
menstrual cycles, and it is referred to as menopause. It may be diagnosed after an individual has
gone for twelve consecutive months without a menstrual period. It usually happens when they
are in their 40s or 50s. Menopause occurs naturally, and it is a biological process. It is associated
with symptoms such as hot flashes, and its emotional symptoms may interfere with their sleep,
decrease their energy, or affect their emotional health. This paper highlights menopause and
related issues.
Explanation of Some Terms
Perimenopause: it involves menopause, and it is the time when the body of a woman
makes a natural transition to menopause (Mayo Clinic, 2019). It marks the end of the
reproductive years and may also be referred to as the menopausal transition. Perimenopause
begins at different times for different women, and its signs of progress may be seen in the 40s,
but some women begin to see changes in the 30s.
Surgical menopause: the natural aging process does not cause this, but rather a surgery
that causes a woman to go through menopause (Nwadike, 2020). It happens when an
oophorectomy-surgery that removes the ovaries is carried out in a woman. When ovaries are
removed, they trigger menopause.
Stress menopause: a continually high level of stress causes this. A high level of stress
may cause a woman to experience symptoms similar to those of menopause (Vogel, 2021).
However, this does not trigger menopause. This is because high levels of cortisol lead to reduced
estrogen in the body.
