In sports massage
Client consent
As a new client at the practise you will be asked for consent to allow the
information attained from a physical assessment and treatments to have that
information available in the case in which a referral is needed being the case
that the client needs further medical treatment. The physical assessment will
be done by the masseur and will help attain information to proceed with the
treatments required; it will involve some basic stretching and range of
movement exercises.
Any treatment will be conducted within the practise (unless referred
otherwise) in a private and professional manner.

Conditions like warts, lice and mites or herpes simplex should be avoided in
case of contamination and spread of condition and should be noted as issue at

areas around the fracture should not until the fracture is well healed.

Impetigo, ringworm and scabies should be avoided and massage is totally
contraindicated to prevent cross contamination.
Rickets
A softening and swelling on the bones lack of vitamin d a childhood version of
osteomalacia, should only ever be done with doctors supervision and very
gently to relive symptoms.
Epilepsy
An abnormal electrical activity of the brain, massage may be helpful but only
be carried out with medical supervision or recommendation.
Referrals
When a referral is being sent it must not have any personal notes or diagnosis
and must be informed and objective, any reasons for referral must be clearly
and concisely explained with any information from the client that should be
sent with the referral, all communication should use correct terminology and
be professionally laid out.
Emergency protocol
In any EAP the S.M.T must remain calm and be sure to assist clients to locate
and find the emergency exit while looking out for the safety of themselves, it is
imperative the S.M.T is up to date with relative training on their EAP and the
procedures of the Clinique.
Personal and clinical standards
It is excepted that all clients will be treated in a professional manner with a
confident S.M.T with knowledge and training, a clean and organised station to
work is very important for health and safety and to make sure the client feels
like the practitioner is also taking care to be clean and professional, they must
also have relative qualifications and insurances to ensure total due diligence
and compliance with the laws. Toilet facilities and hand wash areas must be
available to clients and the S.M.T, water should readily available and clean
towels and couch roll easily assessable with a means of disposal nearby for
cleanliness purposes. All P.P.E should be regally cleaned and made presentable
for use, keeping a well stocked supply of massage medium is essential to not
be running out or low with a client waiting.
