MODULE 1 MILESTONE - CRITICAL THINKING TOPIC
For the final portfolio paper, I have chosen my topic to be about the power relationship
between a parent and their child. This is a widely controversial power relationship that has been
fueled for quite a few years between parents and activists as well as the children involved. I find
this relationship interesting from the prospective of the child.
With every new generation born, it seems like they are getting gutsy on their
rights as people although they are not only underaged but also not knowledgeable about the
outside world. I want to dissect the change in this relationship being a previous dictatorship to
more of a democratic standing. I also am interested in seeing the progression of what the future
of this power structure will be.
A few critical questions I have about this topic starts with, is there a way to share the
power in the relationship between parents and children without allowing a child to run free? My
second critical question is, how can a parent transition their parenting in a way that can include
their children in the decision-making process? My third question is, how does the different
parenting styles affect the child now and in the future?
To narrow my topic to think more clearly and carefully about issues related to the topic is
by strategizing what resources I can use for different topic points. I do not want this to become
one sided, but instead want to show the different views and aspects of what this relationship is to
everyone. I think narrowing my resources to sociology research will give me a stronger stand on
this.
Two scholarly sources I can use in my final portfolio are as listed.
