ISO 27001 Certification and it benefits

ISO 27001 is an information security standard that is of crucial importance in the world.

It is very popular across the globe because of the robustness of companies in declaring and

assuring clients of their information security management. Unlike yester years where adhering to

this standard was to achieve a competitive edge, currently, compliance to this standard is

considered best-practice in business. Compliance to this standard is also a minimum entry

requirement for nay given company in tenders or renewal of contracts.

I have established that my organization complies with the ISO 27001 standard and is

therefore ISO 27001 certified. This certification offers my organization a wide range of benefits.

This standard shows that the company has a proper information security management system that

meets the required standards (Irwin, 2018). As a result, it is easier for the organization to win

new clients and retain the old ones. This is because in an era where there is increased use of

digital technology and increased risk of cybercrime and information theft, clients are very keen

on how their information is protected by the organizations they conduct business with.

My organization is also able to prevent loss of reputation and fines. In cases where there

is breach on security of information, clients may sue the organization for damages caused. The

company is also likely to have a bad reputation which can also lead to loss of trust in the

organization by its customers. As a result, having this ISO 27001 standards certification ensures

that my organization meets the threshold for ensuring proper security of information (Tzolov,

2018). This thus helps to prevent all these scenarios that may ruin the company.

My personal experience with this is when working at another organization, a client asked

whether the organization was ISO 27001 certified. However, since the organization was not ISO
