Alcoholism and Why it has Sociological Causes
Introduction
A personal problem is one involving the person, unlike a social problem which
involves a society. Personal problems vary from individual to individual and can lead to
different outcomes among the affected parties. There are different types of these personal
problems including depression, relationship issues, health troubles, phobias, inability to make
friends among others (Golbeck, 2018). Most of the personal problems are interrelated with
social problems i.e. a social problem like unemployment can lead to a disastrous personal
problem like depression or stress and this depression can lead to derangement of the
individuals who can cause mass murder and spread fear in the society.
Alcoholism
Alcoholism is a personal problem that affects most people. It's a personal problem
that's accompanied by other personal problems like; poor health, poverty and poor
judgement. No one takes himself or herself in a bar or a liquor store for the first time and
orders a drink, there must be an invitation either from his peers or the media. The first
attempt happens to be hard but comes along with a lot of fun since your body is experiencing
a new phenomenon of stimulation and highness which feels unique (Golbeck, 2018). Peer
pressure is one of the sociological causes of alcoholism well especially among teens and
adults too. This personal problem can come along in the name of hanging out with your peers
and before you realize it's too late to hook yourself out of the addiction of alcohol. It is
always amazing how your social life leads you into such a blind spot and leave you there to
rescue yourself(Dannenhoffer, Varlinskaya& Spear, 2018). The media too contributes to the
same problem, the adverts look exhilarating, fun and worthwhile and the urge to get a tot
increases as every day goes by, its common knowledge that actions are a result of a thought
process and it isn’t surprising for one to get a bottle of wine after having been surrounded
with wine adverts either from banners, YouTube ads, television ads to magazine ads.
It’s amazing how some people end up with this problem, and that is right from their
background. We may grow up in families where drinking is a norm and end up adapting to
the family culture or carrying on the family drinking tradition. The family represents a
society here and as we know most of our influences come from the society, we spent the most
time with and alcoholism in this concept though viewed as something special doesn't cease
from becoming a personal problem to the user (Dannenhoffer, Varlinskaya& Spear, 2018).
Making a living is vital for our progress and survival, but you find out that our workplaces
contribute to a lot of factors that affect our lives too, say working in the breweries when you
can easily access alcohol either by being the tests specimen or earning a card to buy your
company’s products at a lower price can really contribute to you been an alcoholic. You see
socially you are employed and what’s more, you are making an honest living but personally,
you are becoming an alcoholic.
Social functions may be viewed as fun moments until when the little fun persists and
becomes a problem for you. One drink in a social gathering may seem to affect nothing but
remember it creates urges as days go by and the more the social gatherings are, the quicker
you become an addict(BavkarIyer&Deosarkar, 2017). The gatherings may be of good faith
but eventually end up leaving you a personal problem to deal with, alcoholism.
Unemployment contributes too to alcoholism, not many people know how to keep
themselves busy by maybe creating something useful to occupy themselves and earn them
some bucks, but instead unemployment to many gives a good window to indulge in
alcoholism, it seems cool and gives the excuse of contemplation or relieving your nerves and
brain from thinking of unfairness in the distribution of jobs in the country. For others it’s
