Alcoholism is one of the personal problems that affect many individuals in society, I
being one of them. It is a condition whereby an individual has a strong desire or physical
need to consume alcohol even though they know that it has harmful effects on their health.
For one to be addicted to alcoholism there are several things that contribute to the person
behaving in such away. The Sociological causes of alcoholism are those causes of alcoholism
that exist when there is an interaction between individuals in society (Wang, Lin& Ting,
2017). K. They include one's culture, family and work influence in the workplace of the
individual. According to structural-Functional Theory, society is a complex system that can
be compared to a human body. Each small part of the society has its own system or structure
of working, but each little aspect contributing to the shaping of the individual’s behaviour
and character. It is a high time to think outside the box and not view alcoholism as a
biological and a genetic problem only but rather a personal problem that can be caused by the
social factors around the individuals. The little aspects of society determine or causes
certainpersonal problems of individuals in society.
Culture has always affected how individuals behave in society and most of the
personal problems in any given society are always associated with the culture of the place. in
Hong Kong is one of the main sociological causes of alcoholism in Hong Kong and in most
of the Asian countries. The culture is almost as prevalent as in Western countries. It is
common to have alcohol readily available in supermarkets, bars and other licensed premises
in the country. The culture in Hong of not having a legal age restriction on people who
consume alcohol(Wang, Lin& Ting, 2017). This, for instance, gave me an opportunity to start
drinking alcohol at a very young age, and when I grew up a little bit older, I found myself
deeply addicted to the alcohol that I could not work or even survive without drinking a little
of it. This is because alcohol consumption at a very early age interferes with the mental
development of an individual and their brains become wired in such a way that they will need
