Introduction
Employees are key resources in any given organization. The success of a corporation is
greatly attributed to effective human resource management practices, which are focused on
employee satisfaction. When employees are not content with an organization’s operations, the
results could be damaging in the long run. Amazon Inc. is one of the largest retail organizations in
the world, but has been under a lot of scrutiny in recent years due to the numerous complaints
about how workers are being treated. The company focuses mostly on customer satisfaction and
maintaining its image of global success, while it does not tend to the individual needs of its workers
(Boewe & Schulten, 2017). In June 2019, the employees took to the streets to protest against being
overworked with little pay. This action took place after, in 2018, the company laid off thousands
of employees across its worldwide branches, leaving others feeling insecure about their jobs
(Purkayastha & Tangirala, 2019). Such issues have great implications for the firm and it is up to
the human resource management to change their way of doing things to accommodate needs of
workers. Regardless of the size of an organization, failure to put employee interests into
consideration can have negative outcomes resulting in loss of credibility, high employee turnover,
and reduced productivity.
The Problem of Employee Dissatisfaction in Amazon
The main problem facing Amazon is the dissatisfaction of the workforce. Many employees
are not satisfied in the company’s relations because of a variety of factors, including poor working
conditions, being overworked, low wages, and the increased laying-off of employees. As a global
organization, Amazon has hundreds of thousands of workers situated in different locations across
