Introduction

Explain who you are and your chosen professional field.

My name is Matthew Mattison, and I am a student at Purdue University Global. I am studying

Business Administration. Once I am complete with my Bachelors, I plan on finding a career

within the business sector. Within the business sector I have the ability to find positions in

government and private sectors. The scope of business is so large you have can choose exactly

what you have an interest in. We have several different concentrations and can further

specialize if I desire.

When looking into the different career fields available I’ve noticed the opportunity to work

within human resources, operations management, financial analyst, contracts, healthcare

administration, or even a business teacher. There many options available to me when I finish

my degree.

I however, plan on working within the government sector as a contracts negotiator/ specialist.

There are many jobs in the private sector that have a career like that of the government.

However, the government offers so many more opportunities and benefits to make it hard to

pass. I would really like to work for the Veterans Affairs. If there is not open positions with

the Veterans Affairs I am also open to working for the DoD, Department of the Army, Navy,

or Air Force, or Department of the Treasury.

Include an overview of how you perceive yourself professionally.

When I think of myself as a professional, I would say I am a competent professional. I know

what I can and can not do and am able to own up to my strengths and weaknesses. I have been

groomed to a high level of standards and professionalism for the past seven years while in the

Military. I strive for excellence in all that I do and complete tasks without fail. I know

regulations and rules and am more than willing to enforce them to ensure professionalism does

not dwindle. I’ve been through multiple classes that have taught me to communicate properly

and effectively. I use proper English and am clear and concise with all I speak. I understand

the importance of non-verbal communication and can use it to my benefit. I ensure I build

rapport with all I come in contact and make sure I am professional at all times.
