Introduction
A curriculum is simply a combination of instructions, learning experiences, and
performance assessments designed to evaluate and implement the learning outcomes in a given
course (Erstad, & Voogt, 2018). In a school setting, a curriculum may be defined as what the
school is attempting to teach, i.e., the content and thinking skills. When designing a curriculum,
it is vital to consider various factors. One common factor that should be considered in the
development of a curriculum is literature planning. Literature planning entails identifying and
compiling the most relevant books and writings for the particular subject. This practice has been
determined to be vital in curriculum development for some reasons.
Literature is generally vital in any curriculum since it helps students respond to it and
argue it through understanding various phenomena and developing a lot of skills that enhance
creativity and emotional intelligence (Handelzalts, 2019). With the suitable literature materials, it
becomes easy for the students to read and understand information about a given discipline.
Perceiving the correct information is, in turn, is crucial as the students may use the information
to argue through practical and real-life challenges. This helps the students not only in having
insight into the subject but also in applying the knowledge perceived.
Including curriculum in an environment requires an entity or an individual to consider
identifying the type of the environment as the first step. Basically, learning environments are
generally categorized into three broad categories: learner-centered, knowledge-centered, and
assessment-centered environments (Shawer, 2017). Apart from giving a rough idea of what is
expected in each of these environments, identifying the type of environment will also help
identify the students’ composition in each environment. Having these two vital variables would
