Q1. Leadership and management must go hand in hand. They are not the same thing. But
they are necessarily linked, and complementary. Both leadership and management are
concerned with providing direction for the organization, but there are differences. Assume
that you are required to provide effective leadership in an organization as the Chief Executive
Officer (CEO)
(a) Distinguish between leadership and management and describe the three managerial
leadership roles that you would perform as the CEO of the organisation.(10 marks)
Leadership is taking initiative, responsibility, initiative to inspire the rest of the group of
employees or team members to perform their tasks willingly, confidently and with much
enthusiasm. Leadership involves the use of less forceful methods to direct and co-ordinate
other members to get their work done and achieve their goals.
Management is more of a responsibility to be in charge of how activities are being done in an

other people’s abilities.

Interpersonal roles, which require me to be the figure head, the one who is in charge of

Informational role- in this role I am required to be the monitor, disseminator and
spokesperson in the organization. This role requires me to be the lead in communicating
important information that includes progress of the organization, goals and objectives of the
organization and representation of the organization.
Decisional role- under this role I have to be the negotiator, entrepreneur, resourceful and the
peace maker. This role requires me to be the one in charge of the organization’s sensitive
sectors. In terms of deciding what types of risks we will be taking, how our resources; human
and technological will be used and making sure everything and everyone is always at peace
in any point of their working in the organization.
(b) Discuss the three leadership skills that you would require to perform the leadership
roles as the CEO of the organization. (10 marks)
Technical skills these are mainly in line with work, knowing how to perform the duties in
order to get the required results. It also involves being knowledgeable about technology and
being updated about the best technology that should be used in the organization, be it human

Human skills this is how one relates to others. Through communication, team work and
