Experiment 6: DC Motors This experiment is to study the dynamic performance of a DC shunt motor and a DC series motor. Background: DC motors can be wired four different ways; separately excited DC motor, DC series motor, DC shunt motor and DC compound motor. In a separately excited motor the field (stator) windings have a separate power supply from the armature (rotor) windings as seen in figure 1. The DC series motor has one power supply for both field and armature windings with the field winding in series with the armature windings as shown in figure 2. The same current flows through both windings. The DC shunt motor has one power supply and the field winding is parallel to the armature as shown in figure 3.
