TARGET SKILL #1
Target Skill #1: Communication
Strengths: My strength in this skill is rather good. I think with life experiences, I have learned
how to use this skill in a lot of aspects of life.
Areas of Improvement: I believe I can improve my active listening skills. I tend to lose my
attention span if it is something that do not interest me. I must not do that in order to continue
to learn and grow from other viewpoints.
Desired Outcome: Returning to school has helped me a lot. The discussions in class allow
me to work on my communication and active listening skills. Choosing different classmates
discussions to read and respond to expands my communication skills by me learning how to
respond to different types of people.
Goal Statement: I would like that one day I can stand in front of a crowd of people from all
walks of life and be able to speak to them all in the same way. I want to be open and willing to
hear or read something that I cannot relate to but can learn from.
Practices for Growth: Describe 2–3 specific strategies that can be used to develop this skill.
Action Steps:
● Step 1: Ask for help when help is
needed.
● Step 2: Practice speaking to a large
group of people. (church, work, school)
● Step 3: Read more to expand my
vocabulary.
Potential Obstacles and Challenges:
Being open to people
Conversing with people who can not relate to
me and vice versa.
Spending more time reading up on things I
know nothing about to have better
conversations.
