LEADERSHIP STRATEGIES
Leadership Strategies
Managers and leaders play a unique role in every institutional change. Leaders are the
champions of change, reinforcers of change, and supporters of employees. The success of the
organizations depends on managers acting on levers of change for the organization. Given
that managers are actively involved in day-to-day employee routine, it is critical to implement
change initiative strategies. Leaders can achieve this by adopting suitable leadership styles,
such as charismatic leadership and transformational leadership style.
Transformational Strategy
Transformational leadership is considered a vital leadership strategy that promotes
individual and organizational outcomes, achieving competitive advantage, hence improved
productivity. Busari et al. (2019) argue that implementing change without leaders is difficult,
characterizing leaders are change managers. Organizational change perspectives require the
leaders to deploy situational attributes and management competencies to guide and lead the
followers to achieve the required change. Transformational leadership strategy is vitally
important in the process of organizational change, as the leader promotes transformational
behavior that shapes employee's reactions and outcomes (Busari et al., 2019). This strategy
deploys a core factor, followership to influence and lead the organization through change.
With followership, managers and leaders have to create goals, clear vision strategies and
demonstrate the proactive steps required to achieve a certain goal. The transformational
leader engages the followers and influences their commitment towards the communicated
vision, hence change (Paulsen et al. 2009). In order to establish a clear vision, leaders are
required to create a clear picture of institutional goals, how changes will affect employees,
and how they will move the organization to achieve its goals.
Charismatic Strategy
The leader’s exceptional qualities define charismatic leadership to communicate,
persuade, and influence followers’ perceptions on a given organizational change or strategy
