PHL420 Wittgenstein‘s philosophy investigation Draft
1. Explain the segment you bring to the class fits within the whole of your paper
Sensation, majorly pain, is an aspect I aim to analyze regarding Wittgenstein's
investigations, which are critical in language. Pain behavior and conscious organisms is an
aspect that is characterized by the texts I have chosen in the analysis, a form of language as it
communicates feelings. Only in understanding pain is one placed in a position to highlight a
stand regarding the given issue. Wittgenstein has a made-up perspective regarding pain as he
stands with the notion that unconscious beings cannot feel any pain and are not in a position to
express their given pain, and cannot communicate.
Only of a living human being and what resembles (behaves like) a living human being
can one say: it has sensations; it sees; is blind; hears; is deaf; is conscious or unconscious. (281)
Several aspects are ideally contentious with the assertion with the stand. Animals, for
example, have no conscious being and cannot be classified as rational thinkers. However,
animals could express their pain in different forms, an aspect that indeed counters Wittgenstein's
stand on pain behavior. Animals may lack a conscious mind but feel pain based on the associated
sounds. Through pain, animals can communicate with the given reactions, being centered on the
fact that the given animals can express pain. This aspect significantly counters Wittgenstein's
assertion, especially in paragraph 281.
"look at a stone and imagine it having sensations, One says to oneself: How could one so
much as get the idea of ascribing a sensation to a thing? ….And now look at a wriggling fly, and
at once those difficulties vanish , and pain seems to get a foothold hear, where before everything
was, so to speak, too smooth for it." (284)

Responses and feelings create a divergent view in the text, as explored in paragraph 284.
Flies may not be close to humans but respond to the external environment, indicating that
feelings and sensations are not directly linked to conscience. An analysis of how close corpses
are to humans compared to flies but lacking sensations further adds proof that the assertion by
Wittgenstein analogy has much controversy. Feelings in living things are different, and thus
assuming that pain and overall sensations are only limited to humans or any closeness to humans
leaves much to be disputed.
Sensation is a crucial attribute of language. In getting to understand the analogy and
thinking posed by Wittgenstein then, one is in a position to come up with an analysis of the
different aspects that have been brought up in references to the matter and in a position to come
up with a wholesome discussion in trying to understand the relation between sensation and
language.
2. Identify at least one thing you have figured out so far for your paper
There are several aspects figured out in the course of the paper. Reasoning and analogies
can be individuals centered. However, all assertions may be proved based on the argument that
one comes up with in a given scenario. In philosophy, an account is wrong if only proven.
Wittgenstein indeed has a philosophical approach regarding truth, but one that facts have
accompanied.
An aspect based on the paper is that language continues to be a factor with much
controversy. Getting to have a deeper understanding of language aspects such as sensation is
brought about. This ideally brings out a relatively new scope of the study. Much has to be
figured out regarding language and whether there is a language beyond humans.
