MODERNITY
As times change and humans continue to evolve and bring technological improvements,
modernity is brought. It then can be told to be the existence of a difference between the current
lifestyle and cultures of today when compared with the kind of life that was in the past. It should
however not be confused with modernization which has an altogether different meaning.
Modernization is the evolutionary process that brings these changes (Shilliam, 2010).
CATEGORIES OF MODERNITY
There are four classes of modernity. These are epistemology (science and reason), politics
(democracy and the modern "nation-state); economics (capitalism and global trade), and finally
identity.
Epistemology is responsible for dealing with and explaining what humans know and how they
know it. Politics which means as it says focuses on the field of democracy and governing people
in ways including writing the rules.
Art is affected by the surrounding in most cases. Thus, when the cameras were invented,
inevitably, art was also affected by this. This meant that the traditional art methods of curving out
sculptures and hand painting were also affected. Photography as art would later lead to
masterpieces such as "100 boots looking for jobs” by Eleanor Antin. Due to the ability of
photography to capture and retain a real live moment through images, people began to use them
to produce conceptual art in their day-to-day lives. This also meant that it was now possible to
create art out of realistic situations which stuck on and are still in practice in the modern world
today.
