The four types of listening styles
Introduction
Numerous listening styles in interpersonal communication have changed the way we
interact forever. Listening techniques such as sympathetic listening, critical listening, active
listening, and courteous listening have touched us immensely, to mention a few. Interpersonal
communication is the act of hearing and reacting to another's communications, and these distinct
listening kinds will highlight just how in-depth and complicated that may be.
Empathic listening has a profound impact on our lives today. According to DeVito, J. A.
(2019), the primary goal of empathic listening is to increase one's sense of intimacy with the
people around them. Internal and external psychological and technical processes are involved in
this listening style. Artists and other practitioners interested in exploring the circumstances of
their hearing and the desire to communicate with those listening might benefit from the
systematic framework provided by empathic listening DeVito, J. A. (2019). Listening with
empathy has revealed a discourse in which we may meaningfully respond to provocations, "Can
one make one's listening listened to? Whether or not I can convey my unique listening
experienceSiddiqui et al., (2019). Those who seek to comprehend the feelings of others and
who are conscious of their own emotions are extremely receptive to the needs of others. For
example, with empathetic listening, we look for information that will assist us in achieving our
objectives and requirements.
When we listen empathically, we go beyond sympathizing with the feelings of others to
get a complete understanding of their situation and circumstances Siddiqui et al., (2019).
Wisdom and attentiveness to subtle emotional signs are required to do this. Our feelings match
