DEFAULT PASSWORD POLICY MODIFICATION 2
The steps involved in modifying the default password policy in Oracle?
A default password profile is usually given to any individual who creates a user profile.
Password profiles define how Oracle manages password-related concerns for instance, the
number of unsuccessful logon tries Oracle authorizes before locking out the account, the types of
passwords it accepts, and the length of time you can use a single password before Oracle forces
you to change it (Oracle, Setting the Database Password Policy, 2020). The default password
policy can be modified for every database user account by changing password-related features of
the DEFAULT profile. A user can utilize Oracle Enterprise Manager Database Express, otherwise
referred to as EM Express to modify the default password policy.
Modifying the default password policy first begins by logging into EM express with
privileged user accounts can manage the default password policy. Privileged accounts are those
user accounts with more privileges compared to ordinary user accounts. They include root
accounts, service accounts, database accounts, administrator accounts, and system accounts. These
privileged accounts can be used to modify important data, steal information, hide one’s actions, or
even change system configuration.
In the second step, you select Profiles in the Security menu and the profiles page appears.
Notably, the Profiles option is only present at the Pluggable Database level if you are using
Enterprise Manager Database Express to manage a multitenant container database (CDB)
alongside its PDBs.
In the third step, you select the DEFAULT profile, and select Alter Profile from the Actions
menu. Following this, the Alter Profile wizard appears and the General page shows.
