After an interview with Mary J. Smith, I was able to learn a lot about leadership, how to handle
various issues such as conflict and how to manage human resources among others. The interview
with the participant was very successful and gave me insights of what I might face in a future
leadership role. Therefore, I will use the knowledge gained from this interview to become both a
good follower and leader which will have a positive impact on my career.
Summary of What I Learned
One of the most important things I learned from the interviewee was how to set
performance objectives, measure performance goals, organize and motivate others to achieve
these goals. To achieve these important tasks, it is important to break down activities and tasks
into smaller goals which are measurable, simple and specific (Brandman University, 2020). First
and foremost, this helps with ensuring that activities and tasks are easier to complete. It is almost
impossible to complete one large project without breaking it down into smaller bits. The break
down is also important in assigning resources and people to the tasks. This is because it’s much
easier to assign these tasks based on the strengths and weaknesses of employees. With such an
approach, it is very easy and simple to achieve set goals.
Furthermore, when assigning resources and people to tasks and activities, it is important
to consider their weight or importance. Tasks are arranged based on their importance which may
include time limits or the weight the carry based on the value they add. The most important tasks
are considered to be high priority and are considered first. Low priority tasks have very small
impact on the organization but are equally important. They are assigned resources and people the
last since their impact is very small. Therefore, it is important to always conduct research to
