Thesis statement based on the observation of this mural: In the mural, Revolución Mexicana,
Victor Ochoa is communicating that just as Mexicans resisted against the oppressive regime of
President Porfirio Diaz, the same way Mexican Americans ought to have resisted the kind of
oppression that they experienced in America in the 1980s. Ochoa is trying to communicate to
Mexican Americans that they will continue being marginalized unless they take revolutionary
spirit to fight for justice, equality, and good education.
One Cause or Consequence of an Event Associated with This Mural: This mural is
associated to Mexican revolution. From 1910 to 1920, Mexicans were involved in a bloody
revolutionary battle that brought to an end 30 years of dictatorship under President Porfirio Diaz.
The revolution began following the dissatisfaction that Mexicans had with Porfirio Diaz's
political decisions, which brought immense suffering on ordinary citizens. The Mexican
liberalists started to feel that most of Porfirio, who had been in power for more than three
decades, made decisions that contradicted the Mexican constitution's principles. Porfirio Daiz
was an army officer who rose to power through a coup. When he took power, Porfirio had
promised to restore Mexican democracy. However, he tuned power hungry and tried to cling to
power for too long. When Porfirio announced that he was seeking reelection for the seventh
time, he began cracking down opposition by arresting them. This triggered the opposition to call
for the public to revolt.
The Mexican people were also angered by the new land reforms introduced by the Diaz
administration. The reforms introduced by the regime required that no Mexican could own land
unless they had legal title deeds. This rendered small landowners helpless. In his attempts to
