Curriculum Planning for Health, Safety and Nutrition
Guidelines
Title
Indicate a title for your experience that reflects the content ~ your title should be short and
descriptive.
Domain
Identify the one curriculum area that will be the focus of this plan (Cognitive; or Perceptual
Motor or Language or Social-Emotional or physical -fine motor, perceptual motor or gross
motor; etc.)
Foundations
Using the Infant Toddler Learning and Development Foundations and/or Preschool
Foundations as a guide. Identify the domain, strand, substrand (include definitions or brief
explanatory statements) that will be the focus of the experience only one or two per plan.
Materials
List everything you will need to carry out the curriculum plan –don’t forget materials, props,
equipment necessary for setting up, supporting and/or cleaning up the activity. If you are
including music or books be sure to specify author or artist, title, publisher and other
identifying information. This list of materials will support you as you prepare for the
implementation of your plan.
Objectives
List 3 -4 specific objectives related to the foundations for the experience. What do you expect
children to be able to do? Be specific rather than general using words like:
identify, describe,
demonstrate, measure. Identify specific, observable behaaviors appropriate to this age group
relative to the domain.
This section should reflect the domain and foundations identified
above.
Learning Environment
Describe the planned context for the experience, will it be indoors or outdoors, where in that
space will the experience be located, how long do you plan to offer/support the experience?
What will your role be supervise, direct, support? Be clear about both your role and your
expectations of the children.
Procedure
Describe in detail how you will carry out your plan ~ this is similar to the procedures section in
a recipe for baking a cake first you assemble ingredients, then you measure (what and how
much) next you mix certain things in certain ways (be specific about each step just as a recipe
would be). Remember the sequence must be logical some things really do have to happen
first. This part of your plan should have enough detail for someone else to offer and support
the experience just as you’ve planned or envisioned it. Here you can include dialogue,
concepts, vocabulary, references to materials, props and or equipment listed above. All of the
information necessary to implement the plan should be referenced in this section.

Title: Food safety
Domain: Cognitive motor
Foundation
Domain: Food handling
Learning safe food handling is a necessity for children.
Strand: How to handle fruits
Handling fruits is one of the most important things children should be aware of for food safety
as fruits are consumed raw.
Sub-strand: How to prepare and consume different types of fruits
Fruits contain many germs, and many children consume them in settings where there is no
supervision. Therefore, kids need to learn how to handle fruits before, during, and after
consumption to avoid illness brought by the food bacteria and pathogens.
Objectives
By the end, children should be able to name the different types of fruits.
In the end, children should know the various steps necessary when handling fruits.
At the end of the lesson, one should be able to handle at least two types of fruits before,
during, and after eating.
The kids should have learned how to wash the different types of fruits by the end.
Learning Environment
The context of the experience will be indoors at school. The experience will take a maximum
of three days while my role will be supervising and providing support to the children. By the
end of the experience, I expect most children to have learned how to handle different fruits
before, during, and after consuming them.
