Doing business in a foreign country may be challenging at times especially due to the cultural
aspects different from those in the home country. India is perhaps one of those countries that
foreigners must be prepared to navigate the different cultural hurdles imposed by the Indian
culture and various other issues such as poor infrastructure, limiting regulations, and corruption
among others. Therefore, it is important to explore the country’s economy and understand the
different cultural aspects businesses must expect before entering the Indian economy.

and/or personal development
Understanding the cultural aspects of a country before establishing a business is important.
Primarily, different cultures approach different issues from diverging perspectives, and achieving
success in a foreign business might be challenging than one might think. Therefore, it critical
that issues such as greetings, gift-giving, body language, dining etiquette, religion, and
negotiations among others be explored to ensure that business success is achieved.

Business Culture India presents a diverse business culture due to its fast-growing open-
economic. Nonetheless, there are numerous factors that those seeking to set up business in the
country must consider including networking, processes of building relationships, and approaches
to communication among others.

Hierarchy India propagates a top-down hierarchy in business and numerous other settings, and
those in power are often granted a higher position and status than ordinary citizens. The caste
system is particularly rigid in India, and since it still applies today, it must be considered when
entering into the market.
Proposed subtopic 3 and brief description:
Communication style The communication style in India is quite different from the
communication style in the US and numerous other countries. For instance, the Indian culture
promotes the use of indirect communication, especially when delivering bad news to clients or
those in superior positions.

Gift-giving Gifts in the Indian culture are important but they should not be expensive.
However, they should be given and received using specific protocols, and understanding them is
of great significance.

Greetings Greetings in the Indian culture are important and they use light handshakes.
However, men cannot greet women, and thus they must wait for the women to initiate the
greetings. Men also do not shake hands with women.
