CRISIS INTERVENTION 2
QUESTION ONE
Possible outcomes of poor crisis assessment and how to avoid the outcomes
Solving a suicidal crisis demands full attention and humanity. The process can end up
being stressful, and in other cases, the process may fail. If one has never been in a suicidal thinking
situation or experienced an actual stressing situation, it may be difficult for the individual to deal
with the suicidal crisis (You et al. 2011). It can also be possible for one to understand how the
affected individual can look like they are overreacting to a solvable situation. Therefore, it may
lead to poor assessment of the individual facing suicidal thoughts. In that case, one should carefully
sit down with the suicidal person, think it through together, and correctly assess the suicidal person
in terms of his state of suicide and his thoughts on suicide.
Lack of proper assessment on a suicidal crisis may lead to the individual committing
suicide. When the situation bothering the individual is not entirely solved, they may stress more
to a point they cannot take it anymore. Suicidal thoughts don't just come with suicide but can also
lead to homicide. For instance, when a suicidal woman is stressed about the idea of leaving her
husband with the children, she will end up killing her children and later commits suicide intending
to protect the children from their abusive father.
Another possible outcome from failure to properly assess a suicidal crisis is that the suicidal
person may fall into a mental health crisis. A mental health crisis puts suicidal individuals in a
situation that they cannot take care of themselves or their families. Mental health crisis develops
from overwhelming stress, anxiety, and depression. A suicidal person is a depressed person;
therefore, a poor assessment will be putting the individual in a mental health crisis.
