Assignment 8 Interviewing a Master’s or Doctoral-Prepared Nurse
04/11/2018
For my selection for interviewing a Master's prepared nurse, I have chosen someone who
I consider to be the ultimate nursing professional, as well as a person of high integrity. I have
only known Nurse Janet, as she prefers to be called, for a little over a year. In that short time, she
has shown herself to be someone who I consider myself privileged to be associated with, both
personally and professionally.
Nurse Janet began her career in nursing in 1975, after graduating from Adelphi
University with a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing. She became accredited when she took and
passed the New York State Nursing exams. She soon went on to receive a Master's of Science in
Nursing from New York University in 1979. (Janet LaViolette, personal communication,
3/19,2018)
While she was employed as a school nurse, she learned that the Bay Shore School
District in New York was planning on implementing a school-based health clinic. She was very
interested in being a part of this team, since it would allow her to have more autonomy in her
role as a nurse, increase her stature in the community, and receive a pay raise at the same time.
This motivated her to go back to school again. Since she wanted to stay on the nursing track, this
made perfect professional sense. (Janet LaViolette, personal communication, 3/19,2018)
