Based on the article by Belicove (2010), evaluate your company website's mobile readiness.
According to the Belicove article, there are many factors to consider when creating a website that
is "mobile friendly". Overall, the message from this article is simplicity. In other words, less
can be more when designing websites that will be accessed by mobile technologies. With that
said, I set out to compare my company's main website, www.phoenix.edu.
As stated by the author, streamlining a website's menu system and reducing the use of graphics
(especially within navigation) are two major things companies can employ to make their website
more palatable to mobile technologies. UOP's main website, www.phoenix.edu, needs some
drastic improvement When it comes to streamlining their menu offerings, as is evidenced by the
fact that the main page has several different menus scattered throughout the main web-
page. Furthermore, there is a rather heavy reliance on graphics on the website, with virtually
every menu and section having an accompanying graphic.
Belicove also mentions the need to scale back text, and UOP's main website does do a adequate
job in this aspect. There is also suggestions regarding using strict HTML coding only, and
utilizing cascade style sheets, and it appears as though UOP's main website does employ this
approach consistently.
Overall, www.phoenix.edu does have some structure that is compatible with mobile
technologies, yet several design ideas that are not conducive with mobile technologies.
