RESEARCH PAPER 2
Statistical data is used in the detection of patterns and collection of crucial data for the
development of community policies. The Gang Resistance Education and Training (G.R.E.A.T.)
program is a community policy program that aims at preventing gang membership, delinquency,
and bullying for students in middle and elementary school. The G.R.E.A.T program is an
important and successful program that has been taught by the uniformed police officers and has
assisted in the prevention of gang membership (Fissel, 2017). This essay analyzes the steps and
issues involved in the collection of data, analysis, and interpretation of the G.R.E.A.T program.
The collection of data was conducted through the existing data and new data from
additional sources. Existing data include internal police records and external datasets while new
data was acquired through qualitative data such as surveys, observations, questionnaires,
interviews, and assessments. Some challenges occur from data collection including;
determination of accuracy, student identification and recruitment and maintenance of participant
privacy. As some of the data were collected from existing sources such as article reviews, it was
difficult to determine the accuracy of these data sources as some of the information was
outdated. As the interviews, questionnaires, and assessments were conducted in the middle
school and elementary school students, it was difficult to determine and recruit students that
would participate in the interviews and assessment. It was also essential to acquire parental
consent for the participation of the interviews which was difficult to assess.
The qualitative data was collected through interviews, observation, and assessments. This
data was analyzed through the assessment of the data into a more understandable form through
the understanding and categorization of the data (Larini & Barthes, 2018). The most relevant
data was identified and used based on the results that the study was assessing. Cross tabulation is
the data analysis tool that was used to analyze the data that was acquired from the police records,
