Annotation of Short Story
1. Identify three of the following literary elements in the story, and explain how you
recognize them:
Plot
The plot summary of "Miss Brill" by Katherine Mansfield is shown to represent a middle-
aged woman who does not recognize her existence, especially socially. She spends most of
her days teaching children and helping an older man read newspapers. She is fond of her fur
coat which she has attached her youth to. Every Sunday, she has to wear it and drive to the
park where she parks and observes other people. The plot continues to show us how she plays
on the grass nearby as she puts her concentration on whatever other people are doing

lonely life, especially concerning how old she looks. These characters make fun of her fur
coat.
