Define the five P’s of the sport marketing mix.
The Five P’s of the sport marketing mix are the people (public relations), the place, the promotion, the
price, and the product. The five P’s in a sport marketing mix are used to ultimately help promote and
grow the sport team effectively to gain a good support system from Fans and sponsors.
Provide and describe specific sport-related examples of each of the five P’s in action.
Product: The product in a sport-related example is the team or the actual game that takes place
it is what you are creating for the customer.
Price: In sport the price is determined by multiple factors it is the amount of money that a
person is willing to exchange in return for entertainment and ‘interaction’ with the sport. It depends on
the sport, the team, the current state of the economy and the amount of competition against it it is
the most flexible aspect.
Place: With a sport-related example the place is where the sport can be found whether it is
found at the playing grounds itself, on live TV or can even be brought to the customer through
merchandise.
Promotion: The objective of a promotion is to advertise the sport and sporting events to
potential customers to grow the event. The more fans that are present, the bigger the event and the
more of a financial success it is. A promotion for a sporting event can be advertised through Television
ads, autograph meetings or even through organized events with the sport teams players.
Public Relations: Public relations is probably the most important part of the five P’s as it deals
directly with the people. It is the communication, media coverage and feedback to the following fans of
the sports-team. For example, the public relations part could be the music played at a game or discounts
offered to loyal fans.
Find evidence of a sport organization that does an excellent job of recognizing market trends and
adjusting its strategy accordingly. How does the organization stay true to a core vision while also
repositioning it products?

and follows strategies. The core vision of the New York Yankees is to provide a world class baseball
team; it has not only done that but also grown as a brand that is well known to many across the globe.
