Supporting a Position week 1
The use of "capital punishment" / lethal injection has been a long time argument argued for
and against by many political. But ultimately it has fallen on the shoulders of the individual
states and Supreme Court as to when and how this form of capital punishment should be used.
My personal feeling is that lethal injection is a way to show criminals who have
committed heinous and violent crimes, that their actions DO have consequences. And as the
article clearly states I am not the only one who feels this way. Texas, Tennessee and Virginia are
currently reviewing them capital punishment laws to make them stronger so as to discourage
criminals from committing even more heinous crimes in their states. Even thought the actual
process or amount of the chemical may have not been perfect in this particular situation, that
doesn’t mean that we should completely do away with this system. But the statistics don’t lie
and in Texas since they imposed the death penalty the crime rate has gone down over twenty
eight percent.
The Supreme Court has “not” ruled that lethal injection is or is not “cruel and unusual
treatment” it did conclude that a prisoner dose have the right to challenge the method of
execution, by stating that they would suffer and die a painful death. So the convicted felon dose
have right to chose another method of terminating his life.
Two out of three people in the United States believe and support in these laws.
Some people say that the process of lethal injection needs reform but in 2007 out of forty two
people that died from lethal injection twenty eight were Caucasian and only fourteen were of
African American descent. That means that the statistics show that it doesn’t matter who you are
or what race you are if you do the crime you will have to pay the price.
Even though the process of lethal injection might not be perfect it is contently being
approved a pond and the Supreme Court has allowed death row inmates to chose there form of
death. We just need to put more work into this possess so as to perfect it the best way possible.
