Mahatma Gandhi
Mahatma Gandhi was born in 1869 and later became a proponent of freedom through
non-violent tactics. Gandhi's upbringing makes him one of the world's renowned leaders and
proponents of peaceful coexistence (Duiker, 2021). At his time, segregation, discrimination,
and unfair taxation legislation had been a prevalent secernment against Indians by foreign
authorities, and he was committed to change the script. Gandhi's primary purpose was to
ensure a better life for all people. Firstly, Mahatma Gandhi's primary goal was to fight for the
rights and freedoms of Indian citizens from Great Britain using non-violent means. Secondly,
Gandhi was determined to advance the concept of passive resistance against the Britons and
ensure that oppressed Indians achieved independence. Thirdly, Gandhi is known to be a great
believer in peace and cooperation between members of varying religious orientations and
advocating for fairer treatment of Indians (Duiker, 2021). Fourthly, Gandhi was determined
to ensure that India became free from territorial domination by external countries. Whether
handling poverty issues, economic independence, or individual freedoms, Gandhi employed
non-violent means and honesty in his attempts to realize the targets or goals he considered

Jawaharlal Nehru
Jawaharlal Nehru was an Indian independence activist born in November 1889 and
subsequently the country's first Prime Minister. Nehru was a key player and driver in India's
independence politics. Duiker's (2021) postulation portrays Nehru as an eminent leader that
emerged as a significant driving force behind India's independence movement to the country's
independence in 1947. Nehru's role in India's leadership accorded him the name Pandit
