SEX TRAFFICKING 2
Sex Trafficking
Summary of the Article: Missing children rescued in Georgia sex trafficking bust
The article was written by Associates of press on August 29, 2020, and posted in the
Washington Post at 2:00 Am. It's 2 minutes reading brief and detailed article post. Thirteen
children were reputedly missing, and after a thorough search by both the federal and state agents,
they were rescued (in Atlanta city) with other 26 endangered children (Associated Press, 2020).
This came at the cost of nine individuals arrested for parental kidnapping, sex trafficking, and
custodial interference. Sex offenders and weapon violations were also among the charges. The
FBI statistics indicate that one out of six children involved in this endangered runaway is a sex
trafficking victim.
Supportive Data
The FBI records indicate over 420,000 child trafficking cases the agents have dealt with.
Out of this figure, 90% of them are endangered runaways (Associated Press, 2020). The FBI and
the Children Missing Unit said it would continue working collaboratively with other stakeholders
to reduce these cases and rescue the endangered ones. Approximately 300 girls in Atlanta are
lured into trafficking, with a sixth of this figure being victims of a children's sex offense
(Associated Press, 2020).
NR503 Concepts
Regarding the social justice theory learned in RN503, the principle of human rights is
central in this article. Kidnapping and endangering these girls for sex trafficking, child
exploitation, and additional mental health complications violate the human rights principle in the
social justice theory. For this issue to be dealt with, it will require interdisciplinary collaboration
(The FBI and the Missing Children Unit) to effectively rescue and put the bad guys behind bars.
