WHY FOUNDING FATHERS CHOOSE REPUBLIC STATE 2
Why Founding Fathers Choose Republic instead of Democracy for their New State
Introduction
The Founding Fathers were a group of businessmen and wealthy plantation owners who
played an active role in fighting for America’s independence. Apart from enabling America to
attain independence, they penned many influential documents that steered the nation up to date.
The Constitution represents one of the documents that the Founding Fathers coined. Although
they established a better nation, they experienced many problems (Alexis, 2000). For instance,
they faced resistance in convincing people who thought America should be democratic state.
Although they faced resistance, Rome's and Britain's history made them argue that the Republic
state would enable freedom, fairness as well as common welfare to prevail.
Why they Choose Republic State
The Founding Fathers selected Republican government rather than Democracy since they
perceived that it was the best form of government they could select for themselves. In this
government, they were convinced particular people would be selected in a bid for representing
the will of the people. Likewise to the Roman Empire, they were certain that people identified as
elected officials would be selected to cast votes on behalf of particular groups of citizens. In
specific, they considered that the voters would be grouped based on state, neighborhood, and
city, and among others. Secondly, the Fore Fathers believed that the legislation which would be
made by the representatives would be fair (Alexis, 2000). If the representatives barely made fair
laws, the Fore Fathers were certain others would. Thirdly, they argued that a republican state
could lead to the common welfare. That is, laws that would be approved could help each person
rather than one individual or majority group. Finally, they argued that it would enable people to
live well given that they had enough freedom.
