Instructional Modifications for Gifted Students.
Grade Level and Content Area: Current grade level is EC-6 Core Subjects.
Students with exceptional prospects for high performance in various academic or artistic
fields are referred to as gifted students (Worrell et al., 2019). To fulfill their academic and social
requirements, these students frequently require new instructional approaches or special systems.
Some of the instructional modifications that teachers should have when teaching gifted students
are acceleration and enrichment.
Acceleration.
Acceleration of gifted students entails students becoming advanced until they have
mastered or shown understanding of the subject. It is referred to as a vertical transfer, and it
permits students to miss whole assignments or scores (Worrell et al., 2019). Learners are
pretested and will always skip a class if they can show that they understand the details.
Enrichment.
Enrichments are identified as specialized instruction given to gifted students in addition
to their regular curriculum. It is usually referred to as a lateral technique since it does not
progress a student to an advanced level or grade, but rather adds more material (Callahan et al.,
2015). This knowledge is typically delivered through tasks that involve Bloom's Taxonomy's
higher-order thought stages (Worrell et al., 2019). Although gifted students gain from tasks that
need them to examine, assess, and construct, their peers may gain from tasks that need them to
recall, recognize, and interpret data.
