Social Media and Its Impact
Living in the modern era where most social communication takes place over the
Internet, social media has a significant impact on how people interact. With millions
of users worldwide, social media has become one of the most popular means of
communication and information exchange. From news reports, family photos, and
large networks of like-minded professionals, are part of life not only for young
generations, but for all people who have irreplaceable computers, tablets, or mobile
phones. Social media refers to all apps, websites, or blogs that enable people from all
over the world to communicate, chat, and share content, and video call among many
of the other functions they provide to their users. So, what are the benefits and
disadvantages of social media?
The positive effects of social media on people today include keeping them abreast of
events happening around the world and enabling them to communicate and stay in
touch with their colleagues and friends without physical encounters. It fills the gap
between friends, where anyone in Jordan can communicate and interact with a friend
or boyfriend in the United States. This in turn helps strengthen relationships between
high school or college classmates, who have moved after completing the school to
different locations around the world. In addition, people can create pages and groups
on social media platforms based on their careers and faith in other dimensions of their
lives, and this leads to more communication and more opportunities for their
respective disciplines. This can lead to more job opportunities that are created for
unemployed youth. From the many interviews conducted daily, people say that social
networking platforms make their lives enjoyable, effective and easier as they become
their way of life.
It is also said that social communication increases a person's quality of life and can
reduce health risks. Many people report that they have not experienced any negative
experiences with social networks, and schools have begun to view them as an
educational tool. Using social networks helps improve students' technological skills

online and to get help with tasks. 60 per cent of social networking students said they
were talking about education, 50 per cent of whom spoke specifically about school
assignments. These students seem to have an extraordinary range of traditional skills
and 21st century skills including communication skills, creativity, collaboration,
leadership skills and technical competence. Parents expect schools to benefit from the
use of online social networks to teach children, but to do so in a safe way. Some
public schools have established a secure social network for their students to be able to
communicate with other students and do so in a more secure way.
Social networks have already changed the way people globally interact, but they also
progress more to make them easier to access. Social networks are now portable and
accessible through the use of a cell phone. It is thought to be a great idea and will
increase the use of social networks because many people carry mobile phones with
them at all times. People can use mobile phones to update their status, post comments,
upload photos, send messages, and update their profile from almost anywhere.
Although social networking sites seem to connect more people and keep them
informed, they lead to social isolation. It reduces the number of direct interactions
among people because they spend most of their time on these social platforms online.
An assessment from a number of studies by various scientists shows that social
isolation can cause a number of effects such as physical, emotional, mental and
psychological problems among these people. This can lead to melancholy,
apprehension and many other problems. It also leads to misspelling in words, misuse
of words and tension through the use of abbreviated forms and abbreviations. This has
a greater negative impact on students because it directly affects their language
abilities and leads to poor grades in languages.
It also introduces adolescents under the age of 18 to online hackers who are attracted
to sexual acts and other general sexual misconduct. They also expose pornographic
content to some social groups on the Internet; the morality of these teenagers is also
manipulated, where they can now access immoral literature and videos. Spending
long hours chatting on social networking sites also reduces productivity among
people. This in turn makes people self-reliant and rely instead on their parents and
families for maintenance. Long hours spent on social media can be channeled into
productive activities that can enable individuals to earn a living or even access to
