Successes
The progressive period was able to develop an equal playing field for enterprises, gave
rise to greater efficiency to administrations, and increased the political mirage of the ordinary
citizens. The progressives exposed corruption in both the government and in organizations along
with rampant inner-city poverty. They also implemented anti-trust legislations and also
controlling industries such as railroads and meatpacking. Henceforth, various amendments in the
constitution were arrived at, leading to the undeviating voting of senators, female’s suffrage, and
a federated income levy. Political corruption was an alarming issue during those times; to
counteract that, they replaced the political hacks with professional technocrats to rationalize and
professionalize the federal authority (Vallet, 2020).
Failures
On the other hand, the greatest failure of it is that it was exclusive. Besides, it coincided
with the Jim Crow moments characterized by discrimination and intense segregation of the
blacks. The facilities and services accorded for the African Americans were of the lower class
compared to whites. For instance, many of the African-American institutions were allocated less
government funding per student than the others. State legislatures enacted restrictive
constitutions that complicated election rules and the entire voter registration. The period also had
multiple, loose and contradictory objectives, which impeded the efforts of the reformers and at
times pitted political class against each other, more so among the Republican movement.
National activists like Roosevelt fought for increased regulations to coordinate massive firm
operations, although others, like Wilson, vowed to legislate for free competition. In conclusion,
