Restorative Justice Techniques
Restorative justice is a criminal justice mechanism that seeks to restore the relationship
between the victim of crime, offender, and the society before the occurrence of crime.
This mechanism views crime as a breakdown between the human connection and their
community and addresses this through repairing the lost relationship
Restorative justice conferencing
Restorative justice conferencing seeks to allow the offenders to admit their actions and
mend the harm done.
It also gives the victim an equal opportunity to talk about how the offender's actions have
affected them and their people
Peer mediation
Peer mediation is another restorative justice technique whereby the resource officer
recommends using trained students who act as the neutral mediators to help uncover the
leading causes of offenses and mutually agree on appropriate methods of resolving the
harm.
During this session, peer mediators establish; the main objective of the process, questions
for the people involved in the conflict, and questions for the supporters of both parties.
Restitution
Finally, restitution is another technique that involves paying for the damages caused by
the offender to the victim and does not consider the offender's ability to pay (Payne &
Welch, 2015).
