What Questions Will You Ask During the Activity to Scaffold Learning?
1. “Can you tell me something about capital letter T?”
2. “What does the letter L remind you of?”
3. “What does small letter g look like?”
4. “Can you describe the letters that make up vowels?”
5. “Can you describe the letters that make up consonants?”
6. “In what ways are capital letters different from small leters?”
7. “Pick any 10 letters. How are they similar? How are they different?”
8. “Choose one uppercase and one lowercase letter. What made you choose them?”

Introduction: “Children, get into small groups of 5. Pick an alphabet card out of the bowl and
search for the letter in the bowl with a spoon. Place the letters on the plate.”
Procedures: First, gather a small group and give one alphabet soup plate, a pot of block letters,
and a spoon to each child. Next, demonstrate how to select an alphabet index card and search for
the corresponding alphabet letter blocks in your bowl. Then, place the alphabet cards in a small
bowl in the middle of the table. Finally, invite your small group to select a card and start
searching for the corresponding letters in their bowls using a spoon. Students can place the letters
on their alphabet plate when they are found.
