1.) United States and Norwegian prisons
A difference can be seen between the Norwegian Prisons and the American prisons.
When one thinks about prison, the ideas that come into one's mind are overcrowded cells, people
ready to fight each other and lousy food. Essentially, this is not the case in Norway in prisons.
One of the key differences is overcrowding. The biggest challenge facing the U.S prison system
is overcrowding. In Utah, the number of prisoners has increased by 300% since 1983 (Gerhold,
2021). Overcrowding in prison has its disadvantages, one of which is that it significantly
increases the operation budget. Essentially, the more inmates, the more expensive it is for
taxpayers and the government. On the other hand, overcrowding in U.S prisons increases the
risks of diseases, increasing healthcare costs.
The second difference between the two prison systems is that Norway Focuses on

in numerous activities to make them more productive and mend their ways. Additionally, the
prisoner may also have regular contact with their loved ones. Prisoners in Norway learn life
skills while others are free to attend school.
Families can visit prisoners two times a week and spend time with them privately. In
Norway, an offender's maximum prison sentence is twenty-one years due to their concept of
restorative justice. Anders Behring Breivik led attacks that led to the death of several children in
Norway. However, he will spend less time than other Americans who committed lesser crimes
than him (Gerhold, 2021). The prison system believes that punishment is not keeping an
individual behind bars, but real punishment comes when a person's freedom is taken away. It's
