1. Dylan’s behavior was discussed at a school intervention meeting shortly after he enrolled
in kindergarten. His teacher was concerned because Dylan displayed “odd” behaviors and
seemed to be in “his own world.” Dylan’s speech was indistinct, and although he seemed to
chatter a lot, it was difficult to comprehend. Often he would talk to himself in a sing-song

classroom activities that did not match his interest. Dylan preferred solitary activities and
had trouble in regular classroom activities and groups. Dylan could be poorly coordinated
and would sometimes walk into things. He was also very fidgety and seemed to be constantly
in motion (rocking, squirming, fidgeting).
General Etiology:
This disorder is called autism Spectrum Disorder, caused by the following;
Genetic factors for instance combinations of genes may cause autism in children, hormonal

some of which contribute to the general Autism in children.
Assessment and Diagnosis:
Lack of the ability to express social emotions according to American Psychiatric
Association (2013, p. 5),”deficit in social-emotional reciprocity such as reduced sharing of interest
,emotions.” This condition also shows that the patient with this disorder lacks non-verbal
communication character and sometimes may fail to understand verbal conversation. High
intensity of focus to a particular events as the case of Dylan, the patient is very hyperactive,
repetitive on movements.
The most evident characteristics of this disorder are continuous lack of social communications and
interactions, repetition, reduced interest in social interaction
Intervention(s):
Therapy.
Use of medication such as complimentary.
