A well-functioning healthcare system is crucial for the well-being of citizens. Most
developed nations worldwide ensure efficient, affordable and equitable access to quality
healthcare, which is an advantage when it comes to mitigating the risks of infection or a
pandemic (Calder, Carr, Gombart, & Eggersdorfer, 2020). Different nations have different ways
through which they organize finance and govern their healthcare systems. Most healthcare
systems internationally aim at improving quality care, containing the costs of healthcare access,
reducing ethnic and racial disparities and innovation for efficient healthcare delivery. The paper
will explore the healthcare system of Canada.
A Brief Description of Canada
Canada is located in the Northern Hemisphere at North America's northernmost part.
Canada borders the North Pacific Ocean on the west, the North Atlantic Ocean, and the East and
the Arctic Ocean (North Woo, 2019). Canada is the second-largest country in the world. Living
in Canada is cheaper than living in the United States in different aspects; for instance, people
living in Canada pay less for health insurance and housing rent, but they pay more for utilities,
consumer goods and gas. According to the United Nations data and the 2020 population
estimation, Canada has thirty-seven million, seven hundred and seventy-two thousand, one
hundred and fifty-four people (37,742,154) (North Woo, 2019). Its population is equivalent to
0.48% of the total population in the whole world (North Woo, 2019). However, compared to the
country's size, its population is low because the large size of North Canada is not arable; thus, it
cannot support a large human population, contributing to the country's low carrying capacity.
The federation state comprises three territories and ten provinces, grouped into four major
regions: Atlantic Canada, Western Canada, Central Canada, and Northern Canada (North Woo,
