Key Facts
(Warnings, If you miss a dose,
etc)
You should not use this medicine if you have bacterial meningitis or if you have not been
vaccinated against meningitis.
Eculizumab affects your immune system. You may get infections more easily, even serious
or fatal infections.
You must be vaccinated against meningococcal infection at least 2 weeks before treatment
with eculizumab.
Seek emergency medical attention or call your doctor right away if you have symptoms of
meningitis: headache and fever with nausea or vomiting, skin rash, body aches, flu
symptoms, confusion, sensitivity to light, stiffness in your neck or back.
Do not stop receiving eculizumab without first talking to your doctor. Stopping or
interrupting your treatment could cause sudden and serious effects on your red blood cells.
This medication is used to treat Myasthenia gravis a chronic autoimmune disorder in which the body attacks its
own neuromuscular connections. This causes problems with communication between nerves and muscle, resulting in
weakness. Myasthenia gravis affects the voluntary muscles of the body, especially the eyes, mouth, throat, and
limbs.
Myasthenia gravis develops later in life when antibodies in the body attack normal receptors on muscle. This blocks
a chemical needed to stimulate muscle contraction
I choose this medicine because my Uncle has myasthenia gravis and although I am not sure what medication he is
taking this is the first one I found that is used to treat this condition.
