1. In what specific ways do you think high performers can mitigate feelings of envy and
resentment? Give example. (25 points)
A high performer is characterized as a person with high quality of work, with high quantity of
productivity, consistency, outstanding skills and remarkable talent. However, I believe that above
all those characteristics, the characters that matters a lot to a high performer are being people-
oriented and having a strong relationship-building skill. When we effectively deal with people we
are alleviating destructive feelings such as envy and resentment. I would say that the three
recommended actions a high performer must do is to genuinely give, freely take and build true
relationships.
First, he/she must genuinely give respect to everyone no matter what their position is. It should
be remembered that we should treat janitors the same as how we respect the CEO. Give genuine
appreciation in small and big things our coworkers do. In this way we encourage and motivates
average employees to do more. Second, he/she should open mindedly take criticism. Indeed, a
high performer is skillful but must know that there are still rooms for learnings and improvement.
When we gracefully receive feedbacks we also learn to become a team player, we show humility
and we make our coworkers feel that what they say matters. Lastly, he/she must build true
relationships. Office is our second home, then we should also treat our colleagues as family and
friends. Colleagues can bring you up or bring you down, but when you started investing on building
true and positive relationships you are also building a network of people who has your back and
expanding your horizon with set of true friends.
2. In what ways do you think managers can foster a group attitude toward success? (25 points)
Success is a collaboration of works of the manager and his people. I believe that to attain
success, a manager should start with the individual. A manager must know the strengths,
weaknesses, values and personality of the basic unit of an organization for him to determine his
approaching technique and what could be each individual’s efficient contribution to success. A
manager should invest to people by building a relationship, coaching, mentoring and giving
encouragement.
Once a manager has the heart of the crowd they become good followers. A manager
should create a culture where in good values and practices are dominant. A culture where his
people will learn to adopt and will make them comfortable in the workplace setting. The possible
cultures that could yield an attitude towards success are respect and honesty to one another,
celebration of each other’s successes, showing gratitude, concern for others, openness in seeking
advice and receiving feedback. When people and culture fit harmoniously, then most probably a
big part of the organization is in the path of success.
