SHRADDHA SHARMA M.A. ECONOMICS FINAL YEAR (3rd SEMESTER) Vasanta College for Women, Affiliated to Banaras Hindu University   A state’s foreign policy is its objectives and activities in relation to its interactions with other states whether bilaterally or through multilateral platforms. In other words, we can say that foreign policy is the sum total of principles, interests & objectives which a state or a nation formulates so as to conduct its relations with other state or nations. India’s foreign policy is basically considered as the by – product of two dominant ideological streams prevalent in its culture.  They are – a. Tradition based on friendship, co – operation, peace and non – violence developed by the great thinkers of India, and b. The other one is the tradition that gave importance to realism & power – by Kautilya.  To fulfil the basic objectives of the Indian foreign policy, there are few principles that govern it, they are – 1. Non alignment 2. Panchsheel 3. Dynamism & adaptability 4. Peaceful co – existence, and 5. Others  Central focus of India's foreign policy  Derived from two fold sources – material & non – material  Aim – 1. Not to involve in international dispute 2. Have independent outlook 3. To be aloof from military pacts 4.
